"Hey love time to get up
I think you’ve been sleeping too long
My day started when you were still yawning."
It's already lunch time at his place. He hurried himself to the nearest outdoor seat, smiling as his hand dived into his pocket, trying to disentangle the headset as his other hand working on the phone. The familiar blue screen with a Skype logo shows up briefly before a sleepy face shows up on the screen, eyes still heavy with sleep.
"God I hate you", he heard the other person groans across the screen. Her bedroom voice was always adorable, and it comforts him like a thick blanket does.
He laughed at her annoyance, making a kissy face that made her throw a pillow to the screen.
"That hurts", he muttered, pretending to rub his forehead. She rolled her eyes.
She got up from the bed, yawning as she tied her hair into a simple bun. A few strands fell into her tiny shoulders, and he knows she's going to complain about how her hair 'is rebelling against me I swear', but to him, she still looks as flawless as the last time they met.
"What are you looking at?", she asked, a tiny hand knocking on the camera.
"Is it now a crime to look at your girlfriend during lunch time?"
"Cheeseballs."
Another eye roll. His chuckles muffled as he bite into his tuna sandwich, eyes still focusing on his screen.
She was now sitting on her bed with a tray of food on her lap. They were both munching their meals as they catch up with each other's lives. His day went smooth so far, given the way his boss greets him with a smile instead of a frown, so he thinks the rest of his day is going to be alright. She told him about the new coffee shop that she visited with her friends last night, and excitedly describe on what she calls 'the best croissant ever' in the neighborhood.
"Tuna sandwich again for lunch? You've been eating tuna sandwich for 8 days straight, go buy some panini from Starbucks or something."
He frowned his forehead, feeling a slight annoyance at her remarks. She never understands the joy of eating something you love everyday. She was that kind of person who rarely eats the same thing a week straight, just the exact opposite of him.
"I'm on a budget, okay? A Starbucks panini can buy me 3 of this stuff, oh and by the way Mrs. Rogers sends her regards to you."
"Oh really?"
Her face beamed in excitement, and he loved seeing how those eyes light up at such a simple statement.
"I miss her so much. She's really a nice person, a lovely one. I think I might just fly there just to see her, honestly..."
"Just her?"
"Yep."
"You don't want to see me?"
"Nope."
She laughed at how he faked his pout.
"You're the worst person ever but you're my person so take care until we meet, okay?", she reached out her hand to touch the screen as if she were touching his face.
"Is that supposed to be a compliment?", he deadpanned, but he replied the gesture with a light knock right on the part where her forehead is shown, and she laughed along. She's going to get ready for work soon, so they both said goodbye.
"Tonight, lady, I'm gonna see you tonight", he chuckled, pulling out a ticket he kept on his wallet.
"Oh love is always better
When we take time to get back to who we are when we are apart
Distance makes the heart grow
Even when I’m lonely I’m happy knowing that your love is never far
When we are apart distance makes the heart."
NOTE:
lol I hope it doesn't suck too much. It's been a while since I wrote a short drabble like this, oh and also I miss Melbourne so much and I just want to make this post to salute people who are on LDR because time difference sucks a lot even for someone who isn't in a relationship *sniffles* so yeah, virtual hugs for you, LDR people! <3
