"What's this?", I remember asking, and she replied,"I dunno, I just found out about this song and I'm reminded of how you've always been like this everytime you fall in love."
I feel like hitting her head for that, but sadly LINE hasn't provided that feature yet (I hope you do soon, LINE).
....and for the record, "every time you fall in love" in my dictionary happens, entirely, with the same guy. Ain't life grand?
(insert sarcastic laugh here)
so to cut it short, it turns out to be One Republic's "Something I Need":
I found out about the song earlier than I found out about the video, and I love the song so much albeit I think the lyrics was such a cheeseball (but that's fine, because cheesy is good. Cheesy is pizza, cheesy is Mom's home-made fussilini, cheesy is lasagna). So I went on and watch the video, and the whole time I thought that video was terrible. That kind of lyrics would usually interpret a lovey-dovey video; a pair of humans falling in love and all that cliche, sugary things that happened when they fall in love. BUT NO, the video featured a rabid dog biting on a man various times, and a girl who's just standing there watching as if it's some kind of entertainment for her. To me, the video made no sense.
.
.
.
but I decided to scroll down on the commentary section and found a comment by papi purple, saying:
"...This video alludes to life and death, as well as his [Ryan Tedder] perspective of love. The rabid dog symbolizes a life without love which only brings destruction and death to those within proximity."
I usually don't dwell too much on the meaning behind music videos (unless they really spark my curiosity), but that comment made me watch the video again and understands. I interpret the rabid dog as one's biggest risk, and also one's ticket to get what he wants. And he gets it alright, but not before being bitten and scrambled and even getting a bit of bloody in the process.
...and doesn't it sound a lot like love?
doesn't it sound like that feeling you get when you look into a person and realize that thanks to that sole feeling, that person is now holding the key to both of your destruction and your reason of living?
doesn't it sound like something that you find in the way your mother looks at you when you get home after a long and tiring day?
doesn't it sound like that pitter-patter in your heart when you found out that you are loved?
this song has now become one of the permanent residents on my all-time favorite list; not solely because it sounds adorable but also because it makes me realize that love is truly important to mankind, and it's simply something that gets us through every day no matter how tiring it was.
So I hope you get to experience the same feeling I have with this song.
Enjoy! :)
"...and if we only die once, (hey)
I wanna die with you (you, you, you)
If we only die once (hey) I wanna die with
If we only live once, I wanna live with you."
